Select Lacrosse

Select Lacrosse

Options for select lacrosse for any skill level are very abundant around the Ohio area now! While Columbus and Cincinnati have the most opportunities; the Dayton,Ohio area has a few options also. Club teams range from extremely competitive to less skilled (even within the same club). Club fees can range from $1000-$4000+ and all will travel. Some will travel from the east coast (lax central as I call it) to Colorado, Florida; and some will stay within the tri state area.

Some clubs are national meaning they have teams across the country while others will only have one or a few locations. Neither is better! Teams will be top 20 nationally ranked for one grade and possibly not the next grade.

How to decide.

Start by really evaluating your child’s skill during the Spring season. Second determine how much traveling you can do during June/July as that’s the main season. They will usually also have a fall tournament too; but that is optional with some clubs. Keep in mind they will offer and expect you to attend fall/winter (one day a week)and summer (2–3 a week for a couple weeks)practices. Next ask around to his friends parents; having someone you know on the team can help a lot! Not only because they can have a friend before starting, but to car pool with. Although it’s not guaranteed they will be on the same team.
Find out when tryouts are. They will usually not all fall on the same day, but sometimes they do. The cost to tryout will usually be between $20-$40

Local Options

S.O.U.L Lacrosse

Although a newer club, they offer the highest level club experience in our area. Their coaches and teams are well established, knowledgeable and coach to a extremely high level. Entry into the club is very competitive (from what I’ve heard). They offer many different options from training/and or tournaments to box.

Soul lacrosse

Dayton Lightning is another option for select lacrosse in the area. They have been growing and offer a less competitive entry experience. The club offers a lot of training throughout the year for their members. Their coaching staff is comprised of current college players and coaches.

Lightning lax

A little further…

SOGO lacrosse is based in Springboro/Mason Oh. area. They offer a moderate entry experience. They pride themself on being a lower cost regional lacrosse club. They promote a family first experience, that doesn’t travel to far away for tourneys. All coaches are paid

SOGO

Velocity Lacrosse Is based in Mason and offer a lot of programs year round. They also offer the closest option for younger kids (3+) to get involved in lax. Their coaches are current college players or coaches and the entry experience is moderately competitive. They also have a nice store to buy lax gear, which is nice to ba able to try on before purchase.

Velocity Lacrosse

Even a little Further….

True Lacrosse is a National lacrosse club. They offer a few levels of skill, entry is moderately competitive because of the many different levels of play they offer. They have clubs formed in both Cincy and Columbus (Columbus is more “experienced“ players in my opinion) which are close to equal distance from Dayton. Team options can be regional, state, and national level. All their coaches played or coach at a high level.

Depending on your kids skill level

True Ohio lacrosse

Resolute Lacrosse serves 4 cities in Ohio (Cincy,Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo)and offers a moderate entry experience. They have programs from ELITE (All Ohio)to moderate. They also have a younger program for the little ones. They offer training options from elite D1 to pro level players pretty regularly. All the coaching staff played at a high level. They are a top notch program if you can make the drive and make a elite team.
